Gillette Heating and Air Conditioning

Utah and Salt Lake County AC Repair

When will I know it’s time to have my A/C repaired? Utah’s desert summers can be cruel. Without A/C, the interior of your home can match the brutal outdoor temperatures. If your air conditioner is making strange or loud noises, not keeping up with the rising temperatures, or continues to turn itself off, this could mean there is an underlying problem that should be looked at by a professional. If your air conditioner is working at a slow place or it isn’t working at all, call Utah’s Trusted HVAC Professionals to help provide you with a cool home.

Shaun Changing Filters

What can I do myself to repair my A/C?

If your air conditioner stopped working, first try these troubleshooting tips:

  1. Check the furnace filter! Even if you have changed it recently, filters can become dirtier than normal in a faster time frame due to things like construction in or around your home, pet dander, or season changes. Our rule-of-thumb is if your filter looks like a grey cat – change it! We recommend Merv 8 through Merv 16 pleated filters because they are the best at trapping dust and grime.
  2. Is your A/C frozen up? Check the copper lines on the coil (located on the top of your furnace), or the lines going to the outdoor unit for ice buildup. Another indicator is maybe you’re noticing more water than usual draining from the PVC pipes off your furnace. If so, go to your thermostat and turn the system OFF! If you haven’t changed your filter, do so now. Leave the system off for the next 24 hours. And whatever you do, do NOT turn on the furnace to try to defrost it; it can fry your circuit board in the furnace and you will have to replace it.
  3. Flip the breaker. Try resetting the A/C by resetting the breaker. (Don’t do this if you have any symptoms of #2.)
  4. Check your thermostat. Make sure there is power to your thermostat. Some thermostats require batteries – if yours does, change them! If it is on, make sure it is set to “cool”. If you have a Smart Thermostat, check for any error messages.

If these tips haven’t helped and the temperatures are rising in your home, don’t hesitate to call Utah’s Trusted HVAC Professionals.
